ABRSM Practical Grades focus on all-round musical knowledge and skills. They are assessed through a face-to-face exam at the Pianobeats School by a visiting official ABRSM examiner.

Why taking ABRSM exam?

 

Working towards an ABRSM exam encourages learners to develop musical skills, knowledge and understanding, something that provides the foundation for a life-long love of music and the ability to share this with others.

What's included in a Practical exam?

 

To succeed in the ABRSM Practical exams, candidates need a combination of skills and understanding.

At the exam the following skills are assessed:

  • Performance skills through pieces ( three contrasting pieces )

  • Technical skills through scales and arpeggios

  • Notation skills through a sight-reading test

  • Listening skills and musical perception through aural tests

How many marks are available?

Total marks in all individual Practical graded exams are 150.

  • 100 marks are required to pass

  • 120 marks are required to pass with merit

  • 130 marks are required to pass with distinction
